Opera Institute at the Bob Cole Conservatory
Directed - Stephanie Vlahos
Conducted - Johannes Muller-Stosch
Choreographer - Anindo Marshall

Don Giovanni (1787) is the second of the great trilogy of operas Mozart wrote with the Italian librettist Lorenzo da Ponte. Following closely upon the success of The Marriage of Figaro, Mozart and Da Ponte fashioned the greatest theatrical retelling of the legend of Don Juan.

The acclaimed Bob Cole Conservatory Opera Institute will perform Don Giovanni on the campus of CSU, Long Beach in April. Fully staged performances with orchestra will be sung in Italian with English supertitles projected above the stage. Stephanie Vlahos (Los Angeles Opera / Los Angeles High School for the Arts) returns as Stage Director, having also directed our well-received productions of The Tales of Hoffmann, Cendrillon and Le nozze di Figaro. Johannes Müller-Stosch will conduct the Bob Cole Conservatory Chamber Orchestra.

We are pleased to welcome renowned Kenyan-American Choreographer, Anindo Marshall. Our production will take place in New Orleans in the late 1950's where Giovanni is a vet and a drifter. The sensibility of New Orleans with its veneer of Southern gentility underscored by cultural decadence and African-American culture—particularly the traditions of voodoo—will be borne out in a number of ways via the use of film, characterization, and dance.
