Creator for stage and performance in Edinburgh Scotland America and China

Creator explores the times that change

My exploration into stage directing started with my solo performances and continued when I created a project dedicated to engaging young people in opera. (Details of the Full Circle Opera Project can be found below). I wanted to elevate the currency of grand opera for young adults, so I freely interpreted operas such as Alcina or The Tales of Hoffmanninto relatable conceptual recreations of the operas, often rewriting the score while mindful of the original lyrics, language, and intention.

Although I enjoy directing for Equity theatre and professional opera, I believe my true strength as a Stage Director is as a storyteller recreating of creating new work for young people and for pros. These creations (such as Pacific Cinderella, etc, find below) emphasize collaboration that is cross-cultural and focused on commonality.

American In Tent

When I moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, a small stranger among tall Scots, my head was filled with stories, and the world soon became beleaguered by Lockdown and the stage went dark. I wanted to continue with the Fringe, creating a virtual tent. I called it ‘American in Tent‘ – virtual offerings at international art festivals, introducing works from young and seasoned great American performance artists while reducing our carbon footprints. American InTent had mentorship aspects as well as the fantastic voices of established American performance artists like John Fleck and Micaela Tobin. (Find out more below under We Are Vocal). My work on American InTent lead me to exploring my written work and the work of others in podcast (see below: Audio Drama and We Are Vocal below)
